Pre-Conference Workshop

NRMP is pleased to offer meeting attendees the opportunity to participate in a separate pre-conference workshop.  The workshop is designed for graduate medical education office staff, program directors, and program coordinators who are new to the Match and offers a deep dive into all things Match-related to help attendees better understand the processes and policies that govern the Main Residency Match. The pre-conference workshop debuted at the 2019 Transition to Residency conference in Chicago and was an unmitigated success.

Those who attend the pre-conference workshop will:

  • receive a brief introduction to the history of the NRMP
  • learn about the various program and institution roles and responsibilities in the Main Residency Match
  • explore the Registration, Ranking, and Results (R3) system and discover how to
    • activate programs and update program information
    • register for the Match
    • set and finalize quotas
    • create and certify rank order lists
  • learn how the matching algorithm works
  • discuss the Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP) and how best to prepare for Match Week
  • review Match policies and learn about waiver reviews and common policy breaches committed by programs
  • identify where helpful resources and tools are located on the NRMP public website for institutions and programs

Attendees will have the opportunity to run a Match, form teams to investigate and report on potential policy breaches, and watch and respond to Match-related learning videos.  Space is limited and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.  Visit the Registration page for more information!
